FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD. (Thursday, April 21, 2022) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to President Biden's 2022 National Drug Control Strategy.
"Today, the White House released the inaugural National Drug Control Strategy. I want to thank President Biden for committing to addressing the overdose epidemic in a way that focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of our residents without criminalizing addiction. In Baltimore, we lose over 600 more people to overdose every year than violent crime. This epidemic is a public health issue and needs to be treated as such. I am proud to see that our national strategy aligns with the work we have been doing to enhance evidence-based harm reduction measures and proven addiction treatment programs while also holding drug traffickers accountable for the damage they inflict on our communities. I look forward to working with our Federal partners to confront this epidemic comprehensively."
