BALTIMORE, MD (Thursday, December 10, 2020) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott is announcing another top position in his administration this morning: the selection of Natasha Mehu to serve as Director of the Mayor’s Office of Government Relations. The Mayor’s Office of Government Relations coordinates Baltimore’s interaction with the city, state and federal legislative affairs offices, as well as the city comptroller’s office, and serves as the liaison between the city and other governments. 

“Building a team that can advocate for Baltimore and forge a more transparent, equitable and accountable city is of the utmost importance to me,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I have full confidence in Natasha’s ability to build strong working relationships with our local, state and federal partners for the benefit of Baltimore residents.” 

Prior to working in the Mayor’s Office, Natasha Mehu, Esq. worked as the Legislative Director for the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) overseeing MACo’s policy team and coordinating MACo’s advocacy efforts in Annapolis. Her portfolio included policy development, analysis, and advocacy in the areas of business affairs, government liability and courts, health and human services, housing and community development, and public safety and corrections. 

Mehu was also the liaison to a number of MACo affiliate organizations including the Maryland Association of County Administrative Officers, the Maryland Association of County Civil Attorneys, the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association, the Maryland Association of County Health Officers, and the Maryland Association of County Human Service Administrators. Natasha served as MACo’s representative on the Standing Advisory Committee on Opioid-Associated Disease Prevention and Outreach Programs. 

Prior to working at MACo, Natasha was a project manager for the Home Owners Preserving Equity (HOPE) program within the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s Division of Neighborhood Revitalization overseeing the housing counseling agencies and legal service agencies that provided foreclosure prevention assistance to Maryland residents. 

Natasha is a graduate of The University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned a B.A. in Communication. She received her J.D. with a certificate in Health Law from The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Government Relations Association.

This announcement follows the selection of Christopher J. Shorter, who will serve as Baltimore’s first chief administrative officer, and Michael Huber, who will serve as chief of staff in the Scott administration. Both were announced Monday.
