FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, January 17, 2024) — Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in reaction to Governor Wes Moore’s proposed state budget.

“Budgets are always reflections of our priorities, and, today, Governor Wes Moore showed once again with his state budget proposal that he is ready to invest in building Baltimore’s renaissance. I would particularly like to extend my gratitude to Governor Moore, Secretary Day, and Secretary Grady for their openness to our historic proposal to solve the vacant housing crisis in Baltimore once-and-for-all and their commitment to addressing Maryland’s housing issues in general. The state’s proposed housing investments, including $50 million in Project C.O.R.E. for the rehabilitation and demolition of vacant properties in Baltimore City, puts us well on our way to fulfilling the 15-year plan we put forward and would represent a significant investment in this vision.

“While there are still many conversations to be had, particularly around transportation funding that will deeply impact Baltimore, this budget proposal is extremely encouraging. Between the proposed housing investments, the capital funding for State Center, and support for downtown revitalization efforts, this budget has a lot of great news for Baltimore and sets the stage for important discussions this session.”
