Updated applications help to streamline the permit application process; Event organizers can now schedule virtual meetings with Permit Coordinators to assist with special event permit applications

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, September 19, 2023) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) Director Corren Johnson announced the launch of new online special event permit applications. These updated application forms help to modernize and streamline the permit application and payment processes online for event organizers. There is now also the opportunity for event organizers to meet with a DOT Permit Coordinator prior to submitting a special event permit application. Organizers can schedule a one-on-one virtual meeting or by phone with Permit Coordinators to discuss their event plans and review any permits that are needed.  The DOT encourages applicants to take advantage of this new service by ‘planning an event with us’ for helpful information about the special event permit process in Baltimore City.

“In every neighborhood, special events help build community by bringing people together, and we are committed to making that process easier and more efficient,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “Since the beginning of my administration, we’ve taken numerous steps to modernize the way city government runs and this new system is another step in that direction. By simplifying the permit application process, making it easier to connect with a Permit Coordinator, and upgrading the payment option, it is our hope that this new online system will enhance the special events planning process for residents and event organizers alike.”

Using the new online forms, event organizers can easily submit special event permit application information and supporting documents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer or smart device. Applicants can also pay any fees associated with their permit applications conveniently online through the Paymentus electronic payment system.

The online process has been designed to assist event organizers with the development of plans that comply with local regulations associated with the production and management of special events being held in public right of ways.  The new online application and payment features are part of an ongoing, iterative process to improve the special event permitting process, led by user research with city residents and supported by collaboration across the city agencies involved in this process.
