FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD. (Monday, November 7, 2022) - Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to the shooting of a 13-year-old girl in Southeast Baltimore, which occurred earlier this afternoon.

"Earlier this evening, I was briefed by Deputy Mayor Barksdale and Commissioner Harrison about today's shooting of a 13-year-old girl.

Gun violence is always senseless and tragic, but even more so when it involves an innocent child that was simply going about her day. A child was caught in the crossfire of reckless activity fueled by petty conflict involving individuals who can't properly resolve issues and individuals who have access to illegal guns. This is an unfortunate reminder that we must continue to remove illegal guns and those using them from our streets while simultaneously investing in our communities.

This senseless act of violence should frustrate us all and anyone who knows anything about those responsible should speak up immediately. Treat this young lady and her family with the dignity and respect that you would hope someone would treat you and your family.

On behalf of the entire City of Baltimore, I am keeping the victim and her community in my thoughts and prayers."
