FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Thursday, February 18, 2021) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott has directed the City Administrator, City Solicitor, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Finance to convene a 90-day work group to conduct a comprehensive review of the Baltimore City administrative manual and develop recommendations for clear, consistent guidance for travel taken by elected officials.

“Establishing this work group is about proactively working toward clarity around travel and notification policy for all public officials once and for all,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “Our administrative manual is not regularly updated and could benefit from a comprehensive assessment. I have asked this group to convene and present recommendations that remove any ambiguity in these processes for greater transparency and accountability moving forward.”

This group will start work immediately and present recommendations to the Mayor to ensure that all public officials receive consistent guidance when it comes to travel policy and notification protocol. Their focus will be clarifying the approval process for elected official travel, the procedure for trips that do not require public dollars, and the definition of time off for elected officials who are not on a full-time schedule per the City Charter.

Updates will be communicated once the work group develops its recommendations.
