BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, January 20, 2021) — Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa announced plans for a new, centrally-located vaccination site and provided an update on plans for a coherent, collaborative and equitable approach to scaling up vaccination in Baltimore City.

Mayor Scott announced that Baltimore will open a new, more transit-friendly vaccination site at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) starting next Monday, January 25. The current vaccination site at the Under Armour campus in Port Covington will discontinue operations at the end of the month.

“I want to thank Under Armour for the support they have provided thus far in vaccinating people who live and work in Baltimore,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I am excited to begin a partnership with Dr. Debra McCurdy and her team at BCCC. As this new vaccination site is on several bus routes and is located two blocks from the Metro station at Mondawmin Mall, BCCC offers more access for city residents who rely on public transit.”

“You will hear me say this often over the next few weeks, but please Baltimore, be patient,” Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa said. “We are reassured by the overwhelming interest many residents have in getting vaccinated. We have never seen demand for any vaccine like this in our lifetime, but we are only in the first month of what will be a sustained campaign over the coming months. We are continuing to build capacity, and look forward to moving to the new site at BCCC next week.”

Additionally, starting today, the Maryland Access Point (MAP) will expand its capacity to walk older adults in Priority Group 1A and 1B who lack internet access, through the process of registering for an appointment for the vaccine, once appointments are available. Currently, appointments for vaccination can only be made online. The Baltimore City MAP can be reached by phone at 410-396-2273. Those older adults in Priority Groups 1A and 1B with internet access are encouraged to “pre-register” for appointments at coronavirus.baltimorecity.gov/covax.

“We appreciate a trusted resource like the Maryland Access Point stepping in to support older adults who do not have the internet access required to make an appointment. We must continue our focus on equitable access to the vaccine and ensure our seniors have the essential resources they need as they begin to register,” continued Mayor Scott.

As of yesterday, the Baltimore City Health Department has vaccinated 4,373 people.
